In choosing the surgical method, the nasal structure, treatment goals, and the surgeon's preferences all play a role:
- Open Rhinoplasty
A small incision is made in the columella (the area between the nostrils), and the nasal skin is lifted. This method provides direct visibility of the internal structure and is more suitable for complex cases, reconstruction, and fleshy noses. - Closed Rhinoplasty: All incisions are made inside the nose, and the skin is not lifted. This method is less invasive, results in less postoperative swelling, and is typically used for bony noses or minor corrections.
